During great times of stress, it is easy to feel like the carpet has been pulled out from under you. We wanted to offer encouragement to Tucson businesses in a hard place during this pandemic. Persevering through COVID-19 will make us stronger as people! Truthfully, we’re all in a hard place, just in different ways. Whether you are working twice as hard, or suddenly unable to do anything, we are all in this together.

Take things one step at a time, one day at a time.

Persevering through COVID-19 can look different for people depending on how it has affected their work. If you are in a situation where work has STOPPED for you, you might be overwhelmed with all of the ways you can spend your time, the lack of income, and the inability to go out. You might be working double because you are deemed an essential worker.

Wherever you are in it all, take your days one step at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself with tasks and give yourself grace if all you can do at the end of the day is watch TV. Limit your consumption of the news and social media. As helpful as it is to be informed, there’s no need to constantly be filling your head with it.

Start each day with a goal in mind! Even if the goal is to go outside for 30 minutes, a goal is a goal. These small senses of achievement can really help you get through the day.

Understand that everyone handles trauma differently.

COVID-19 is a traumatic experience that we are all going through together. With that, everyone handles trauma differently. For some, persevering through COVID-19 might look like being over-productive. For others, it might be a struggle to get out of bed. Wherever you are on that spectrum, know that it is okay and you are working through this the best way you can.

Spend more time talking with friends and family, or binging a new TV show. Try out home exercises or put together a puzzle. Or perhaps, stop trying to learn ten new hobbies! Pace yourself. Remember to give grace to those around you who don’t cope in the same ways as you. We’re all doing the best we can – don’t forget that!

If you are having a particularly hard time with the current situation, we would suggest reaching out to your healthcare provider. There are also many helpful online therapy resources like Better Help that can get you connected with a virtual therapist.

We are always happy to help business owners persevere through COVID-19. If you have questions about how you can help your Tucson business during this time, we have an entire COVID-19 resources page on our website full of articles and podcast episodes that are sure to help you out.
