One of the biggest parts of your Phoenix business success is having the right people on your team. Your accountant is a member of your extended team. Throughout your time as a business owner, you might become acquainted with an accountant who makes you question whether or not you can trust them. Whether it be they aren’t getting back to you or they can’t seem to find the answers, there is a disconnect somewhere. In this post, we will share three signs that your accountant is ghosting you and action items to help.
At MOD, we have a strict 1 business day or less response time. It’s important to us that we have quick and clear communication, because a lot of the time, time is of the essence. If your accountant isn’t returning your phone calls, not responding to your emails, you have a problem. To combat this issue, try to set up regular meetings once a week, once a month, where you know you’ll be able to chat with them about your account.
Your accountant should be able to give you specific answers because they are well aware of all of your information. At the very least, you should hear back, “let me look into this and I’ll get back to you tomorrow.” If your accountant is consistently dodging questions, offering vague answers like “it depends,” they might be ghosting you. You and your accountant are meant to have strong communication. If your accountant is not willing to find answers or offer support, you’re probably better off looking somewhere else.
Clients are the most important part of an accountant’s job. If you, as the client, are not a priority, you need to seek help elsewhere. You can simply ask your accountant, “is my account no longer a priority?” Priorities change, this is normal. However, you don’t want your account to suffer in the process. Open and clear communication is the best way to get your message across and hopefully receive a clear answer or explanation.
The point is, when you trust another person or company enough to outsource your accounting, you should be able to have healthy and thorough communication. It is perfectly reasonable to check in to make sure you are still a priority and move on if not. Your accountant should take away stress, not add to it.
