It’s that time of the year! Yes, it’s the holiday season. I think the holidays start earlier and earlier every year but I don’t mind. I say bring on the Hallmark Christmas movies….. but before we really get into the holiday spirit let’s discuss one thing.
Generally, those who plan well in November rarely have to go on those last minute shopping sprees in December. All the presents are purchased, dinner is planned and you can settle into relaxing through the holidays. No stress. Right?
So, quickly, I can definitely relate holiday planning and preparation to another event in your life. It happens once a year, every year just like any other holiday. Tax Day.
How dare I mention this date prior to January but really if you want to have a great experience you must have a time of preparation. I am big on this. Planning and preparation are key so here are a few tips to prepare now for the year end.
- Medical expenses, doctors, prescriptions, labs, eye glasses, dental work
- Sales taxes for large purchases like vehicles, RV’s, boats
- Employee expenses for travel or meals
- Any real estate tax payments
- Car registration fees for all licensed vehicles
If you are a small business owner, this is the time to get your bookkeeping in order. If you are a do-it-yourselfer you need to start today. Procrastination will not help you reduce your stress. It prolongs a situation that is inevitable.
If you need help completing your books call us but do it now. We want to enjoy our holidays too and last minute fire drills are no fun for anyone. We want to make sure we are just as prepared as you.
Remember last minute preparation isn’t preparation it’s scrambling to the finish. Just like holiday shopping it’s no fun buying from a picked through selection of sweaters or limited options for glittery gifts for the wife. Waiting until the very last minute to prepare for taxes is just as unsatisfying and stressful; less options and limited opportunities.
If you need some help call us. We are ready to help you plan and prepare for a successful Tax Day!
